We’ve gotten used to paying a reasonable price for Pixel phones compared to the offerings from Samsung and Apple. Google maintained the $599 entry price for its Pixel phones from the Pixel 6, but that looks like it’s going to change. The Pixel 8 series might see a price hike.

Right now, this is only based on a rumor, so you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. We’re sure to get official price information from the company as we get closer to the launch of the phones.

The Pixel 8 phones might see a price hike

Price hikes are not fun. No one likes spending more for the products they love, but this is the unfortunate result of the current economic situation. In the case of the Pixel phones, we’ve seen evidence of this with the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 6a came to the market at $399, but the Pixel 7a costs $449.

Now, we have more evidence, as a tweet from Yogesh Brar (via Android Authority) suggests that the Pixel 8 will see a price hike when it launches later this year. The source claims that the phone will start at $649 when it launches. That’s a jump of $50 compared to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7.

That’s not a huge jump in price, but there’s one thing that we have to consider. If the Pixel 8 doesn’t offer much change compared to the Pixel 7 phones, then the extra $50 might prompt people to stick with their current Pixel phone for another year.

There’s another bit of news about this phone

While the news mostly surrounded the price of the Pixel 8, Brar also talked about a new bit of hardware coming to the phone. Now, we all know about the issues surrounding the Pixels’ under-display fingerprint scanners; just one of the many issues plaguing the Pixel 6 phones.

Well, the report claims that Google could implement an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. The current Pixel phones use optical fingerprint scanning technology, which isn’t as fast or accurate.

If Google plans on using this technology, then let’s hope that it can make it as good as the competition’s. This will be the third iteration of the company’s new Pixel formula, and it seems to be working. It’s polished off the software and refined the hardware. Now, Google is just tying up the loose ends.
