Montblanc, the German company known for luxury goods, is expanding its electronics portfolio. The firm has launched its first pair of true wireless (TWS) earbuds, the MTB 03. It already makes luxury smartwatches and over-ear headphones, along with pens, sunglasses, bags, wallets, and many other leather goods.
Montblanc enters the TWS earbuds space with the MTB 03
Before we dive deep into the specs and features offered by the Montblanc MTB 03, let us address the elephant in the room—its price. As a Montblanc product, nobody should expect these earbuds to come cheap. And at $445/£345, they are certainly anything but cheap. So what are you getting at this price? Let’s find out.
As expected, the Montblanc MTB 03 earbuds feature luxurious or rare materials. The buds are made from a black, lightweight resin and feature the iconic Montblanc emblem on the top. An engraved chrome ring around the side has the Montblanc branding. The charging case also gets a black-coated aluminum body with the Montblanc emblem on the lid. It features the company’s branding on the inside and includes a charging indicator.
While the exorbitant price tag is for its luxury design, the Montblanc MTB 03 is no slouch when it comes to audio quality. Axel Grell, the former chief headphones engineer of Sennheiser with decades of experience in the audio industry, tuned the audio of these buds. The result is the Montblanc Sound Signature, which delivers an optimal sound experience that the listener can customize to their preference using a smartphone app (available for Android and iOS).
Coming to tech specs, the Montblanc MTB 03 features a 7mm Beryllium driver with support for Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive audio technology. The buds feature ANC (active noise cancellation) and also offer an IPX4 rating for water resistance (via). Each bud has a touch panel that lets you control music playback and answer calls with simple taps. You get wireless charging, too, along with a USB Type-C wired charging port.
Battery life is a bit of a letdown
The battery life isn’t the best you get from premium TWS earbuds, though. Montblanc rates the MTB 03 to deliver up to six hours of playtime on a single charge. It doesn’t specify whether that’s with the ANC turned on or off. Continuous ANC usage may affect playtime significantly. The charging case, meanwhile, can store enough power to refill the buds two times. So that’s additional 12 hours of playtime, taking the total to 18 hours. 15 minutes of quick charging will give you 100 minutes of playtime. The Montblanc MTB 03 is available to buy from the company’s official website and retail stores.
