What’s that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s our next Superman — the only problem is that we can’t make out his face just yet. James Gunn is getting ever nearer to casting his Clark Kent for Superman: Legacy, but while the race to be Kal-El has reportedly been narrowed down to just three, over-excited fans are predicting that the writer/director/producer has already found his one Lois Lane.
According to a fascinating report from The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn spent his weekend screen-testing three pairs of actors for Clark and Lois. Namely, Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan, Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor, and David Corenswet, and Emma Mackey. After this approach was taken on the Saturday, all three potential Supes were invited back on the Sunday to act opposite Mackey alone.
While THR‘s sources urge “caution” in simply assuming that Mackey has landed the part of Lois, the internet is ignoring the warning and throwing caution to the wind, already celebrating Mackey as The Daily Planet’s new prize reporter, and presuming that Corenswet is her solar-powered superhero sweetheart to boot.
Thanks to insider info like this and Gunn’s honest updates on social media, the hunt for the leads of Superman: Legacy has been perhaps the most open casting process for a comic book blockbuster that we’ve ever had. Fans have already got their hearts set on their personal favorites, then, so it remains to be seen if Gunn’s ultimate choices can please the masses.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to properly kick off the new DCU (which kinda also began with The Flash and will then do so again with Blue Beetle, but whatever) once it releases on July 11, 2025.
