Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Brings Optimus Prime and Co. Back to the Big Screen
The film’s early reviews are on the positive side. MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman enjoyed the sequel, happy with how it “cherry-picks the best parts of franchise lore and repurposes them with better defined characters.”
“Transformers: Rise of the Beasts continues the better narrative footing established by Bumblebee,” Roman wrote in his review. “The sequel of sorts again reshapes the franchise with an action-packed, throwback adventure loaded with exciting new characters.”
Perhaps if enough fans enjoy the film as well, there will be much more to come in this narrative following Rise of the Beasts. Director Steven Caple Jr. is hoping that the movie will be given multiple direct sequels and teased that bringing in Unicron could be just a small taste of what all there is to do with that character in a live-action Transformers world.
“I introduced Unicron,” he told Den of Geek. “I was dying for Unicron to show up in a live-action movie, and to be honest, I’ll put it out there, I want him to be across the next two or three films, a really huge major villain. I feel like we spent a lot of time on Earth, and it’d be interesting to see what else is out there, there are different Transformers and different planets, and we just need the right vehicle and the right team to really do it. I feel like this was the foundation of that, of something really special.”
We’ll find out very soon what the fans largely think about the new movie. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be released in movie theaters on June 9, 2023.
