Meeting the in-laws can often be awkward, but that’s much more the case when they turn out to be outlaws. Brosnan and Barkin spoke about their roles in the film, via TUDUM, teasing the characters that viewers will meet when they watch the film on Netflix.

“Billy, he’s a rogue, he’s an outsider,” Brosnan said. “He’s a kind of lost soul. He and his wife are not who they say they are. They’re bank robbers, they’re thieves. They’ve lived a life that is outrageously true to their own outrageous flare of life.”

On playing the “Ghost Bandit” Lilly McDermott, Barkin added, “I liked [the script] because [Lilly] was, on some levels, the strong silent type. She does less of the talking and a lot of the fighting, as does Pierce of course. I love Pierce and I knew him before, so I was happy to work with him.”

They live lives that are a lot different than Owen, the pushover bank manager played by Devine. Devine addressed how his character really cares most about his fiancée above all else, while Dobrev also shared details about her character, Parker.

“Owen is pretty timid and scared and a little bit of a pushover,” Devine said. “And I think he grows a spine throughout the movie for his love of Parker, played by Nina Dobrev, who’s my fiancée in the film. He just loves her so much he’s willing to risk life and limb, and really kind of grows a backbone.”

“What I liked about [Parker] is that she’s got an edge to her yet she’s sort of trying to be a more reformed version of her parents,” noted Dobrev. You either go one way and become exactly like your parents, or you sort of try to do the opposite and be completely different than whatever your upbringing was.”

The Out-Laws will start streaming on Netflix on July 7, 2023.
