Apple has published its recent iOS 16 adoption statistics. The numbers do look great compared to Android, but that is to be expected. Android is used by tons and tons of OEMs, while Apple makes iOS for its own devices only.

81% of all iPhones are running iOS 16 now

In any case, based on what Apple shared, iOS 16 is running on 81% of all iPhones. That percentage grew by 9 percent since early 2023, as the adoption rate stood at 72% back then.

So, 81% of all iPhones are running iOS 16, as of June 1. 13% of them are running iOS 15, and 6% run an earlier, unspecified, version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

Now, 90% of iPhones that got introduced in the past four years are running iOS 16. 8% of those newer iPhones are still on iOS 15, and 2% run on an older, unspecified version.

For comparison’s sake, back in April, 12.1% of Android devices ran the latest version of the OS. As already mentioned, that comparison doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, but there you have it.

iOS 17’s announcement is just days away at this point

Having said that, Apple’s timing here is not accidental. iOS 17 is right around the corner. Apple will announce a new version of its mobile operating system in only a couple of days, on June 5, to be more accurate.

The company will announce iOS 17 during WWDC. Don’t expect major changes to take place, but some new features are expected. Apple will allegedly offer more customization as part of this update, amongst other things.

Having said that, the company also shared some iPad adoption information. The adoption of iPadOS 16 is also quite high, at 71%. That figure was 50% in February, so… it’s quite a difference.

As far as iPads released in the last four years are concerned, 76% of them are running iPadOS 16. 18% of them are on iPadOS 15, while 6% use unspecified, older version of the operating system.
