Unlike most other Android OEMs, Samsung isn’t playing the numbers game as far as charging speed is concerned. While some have topped 200W of charging speed on mobile devices, the Korean firm has stuck to a maximum speed of 45W for a few years now. And it seemingly isn’t upping that anytime soon. Certainly not with the Galaxy Tab S9 series later this year.
Samsung’s upcoming flagship tablets Galaxy Tab S9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra recently popped up on the TUV Rheinland. The certification agency listed the former with model numbers SM-X816B, SM-X810, and SM-X816N, and the latter with SM-X916B, SM-X910, and SM-X916N (via). The three model numbers correspond to the global 5G version, global Wi-Fi version, and South Korean 5G version of the devices, respectively. The US 5G versions of the tablets bear the model number SM-X816/SM-X918U.
While the TUV certification didn’t reveal anything that we don’t already know about the Galaxy Tab S9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, it confirmed rumors that the new tablets will feature 45W fast charging. The listing mentioned a power rating of 10V/4.5A, which equates to 45W. That’s the same charging speed offered by the Galaxy Tab S8 series. Note that Samsung also has a vanilla Galaxy Tab S9 in the works. Like its predecessor, it should also get 45W fast charging. It is the smallest model, so it certainly won’t top its pricier siblings.
We don’t yet have a confirmation about the battery capacity of the upcoming flagship Samsung tablets. But rumors are that the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will pack an 11,200mAh battery. That’s unchanged from the previous-gen model. It’s unclear if the Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Tab S9+ will also keep the battery capacity unchanged from their respective predecessors, which feature 8000mAh and 10090mAh batteries. Samsung won’t include a charger in the retail box, though. Buyers will need to separately purchase a 45W power brick unless they already have one.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series may arrive in late July
Samsung has yet to announce the date for its next Galaxy Unpacked event where it will unveil the new tablets. But rumors suggest the event will take place on July 26. Along with the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, the company will also debut the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables during the event. The Galaxy Watch 6 series should also break cover on the same day. Stay tuned for the official confirmation.
