Action movie and martial arts icon Jackie Chan teams up with Fast X star and WWE professional wrestler John Cena in the first trailer and poster for Hidden Strike. Released courtesy of XYZ Films, the action hero duo trade wisecracks and take out bad guys in their own distinctive styles as Hidden Strike quickly becomes a “must-watch” for action movie fans. Check out the newly released trailer for Hidden Strike below.
While merely the idea of Jackie Chan and John Cena uniting to dispense justice, avoid explosions, make jokes, and generally have an action-packed time is likely more than enough to convince you of the merits of Hidden Strike, here’s the plot anyway. Hidden Strike follows Chan and Cena as two ex-special forces soldiers who must escort a group of civilians along Baghdad’s “Highway of Death” to the safety of the Green Zone.
Hidden Strike is directed by Scott Waugh, who is best known for Need for Speed and will next helm the action ensemble The Expendables 4, from a script written by Arash Amel of A Private War and Rise fame. Led by Jackie Chan (Rush Hour, Police Story) and John Cena (F9: The Fast Saga, The Suicide Squad), Hidden Strike will also feature the likes of Pilou Asbæk (Samaritan, Game of Thrones), Amadeus Serafini (Scream: The TV Series, Summer Days, Summer Nights), Zhenwei Wang (The Karate Kid), Minghao Hou (When We Were Young), and more.
Hidden Strike Has Had a Dramatic Journey to Screens
Previously titled Snafu, followed by Project X, and then Project X-Traction before landing on Hidden Strike, the Jackie Chan/John Cena team-up movie has had a tumultuous time making it to screen. The project was first revealed back in 2018, a little before Cena’s status as a movie star began to grow thanks to roles in the likes of Transformer prequel Bumblebee, DC outing The Suicide Squad, and the ninth installment in the Fast and Furious saga.
Filming commenced in China during which, despite the western world’s reliance on overseas box office from the region, the relationship between the US and China was thrown somewhat into disarray due to trade-related drama. Hidden Strike wrapped towards the end of 2018, but neither Cena, Chan, nor anyone else really spoke of the movie much, other than Cena speaking highly of both his time living in China and his experience working with Jackie Chan.
Things got worse for Hidden Strike when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and then worse still when Cena referred to Taiwan as a country during his promotional tour for F9, something that is majorly discouraged by the Chinese media.
But, with the first trailer and poster for Hidden Strike now arriving after all this time and teasing the explosive antics of Jackie Chan and John Cena, we have edged ever closer to finally seeing the action movie that has been six years in the making.
Hidden Strike does not yet have a release date but is coming soon.
