Samsung is rolling out the One UI 5.1 update to the Galaxy A13 5G in the US. The 2022 budget isn’t getting the full-fledged One UI 5.1 but the stripped-down “Core” version. It still brings a handful of new features and improvements, though. A new security patch is also part of this release.

The One UI Core 5.1 update is widely available for both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the Galaxy A13 5G in the US. Samsung is pushing the big update with firmware build numbers A136USQU4DWE1 and A136U1UEU3DWD7, respectively for the two variants. It is available for users on most networks across the nation.

One UI 5.1 is the latest iteration of Samsung’s Android-based custom software. Built on top of Android 13, the Korean firm debuted the new version with the Galaxy S23 series earlier this year. It has since pushed the update to dozens of other models. The US-bound Galaxy A13 5G is now joining the party, though it’s getting the “Core” version.

As you can see in Samsung’s official changelog here, the Galaxy A13 5G is getting improvements to the Gallery, multitasking, and more with this update. It is gaining support for new gestures to quickly resize windows and new actions to control Quick Share and Touch sensitivity, change your ringtone, and change your font style. One UI Core 5.1 also brings activity-based wallpapers, improved widgets, a dynamic weather widget, improved search in Samsung Internet, improved AR Emoji, and a new Battery widget that lets you check the battery level of your connected devices.

The Galaxy A13 5G is also getting the April security update

Along with One UI Core 5.1, the latest update for the Galaxy A13 5G in the US also brings a new security patch. Samsung is pushing the April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the device. It contains patches for several dozen vulnerabilities, including a few critical ones. The Korean firm has already released the May SMR for most of its eligible Galaxy devices, but the Galaxy A13 5G may not get it.

Nonetheless, there’s plenty to look forward to in this update. If you’re using this budget 5G smartphone in the US, watch out for a notification about the OTA (over the air) update in the coming days. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If you don’t see any updates today, wait a few days and check again.
