Warning: Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to follow.

At this point, it’s more than safe to chalk up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as a success; not only has it already passed its production budget at the box office with likely a month and change to go, but it’s also a high-flying contender for the MCU‘s best ever threequel; not many movies can claim to have made people cry over a raccoon.

Vol. 3 also has the distinction of being one of the lone MCU films to bring real, palpable consequences into the mix; a nuance that we haven’t really felt since Endgame with the departure of Steve and Tony. Indeed, the storytelling aficionados in the crowd may have found themselves sweating when Gamora had that long moment with Peter Quill at the film’s end, hoping to hope itself that they wouldn’t end up kissing. Luckily, James Gunn knows his stuff, and chose to keep reminding us that it’s okay to move on from something.

But that was never going to stop nosy theorycrafters from bursting into the room, armed to the teeth with ways to retcon every story beat under the sun, and one Twitter user was happy to lead that charge with a certain Loki fan theory.

In fairness, it’s a valid question; since the current Gamora is a displaced variant of the now-deceased original Gamora, who died in Infinity War, it makes sense that the TVA would want to go after her.

On the other hand, however, Gamora’s character arc has been tied up quite nicely, so it might be best to leave more-than-well enough alone.

The Guardians may have all survived the tribulations of Vol. 3, but a story is still a story, and even if in-universe logic dictates that the TVA should go after Gamora, it’s probably for the best that we just accept the headcanon of the TVA consistently losing to the Ravagers and move on.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
