The ASUS ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are the best that the gaming phone segment has to offer. Packed with powerful specifications and impressive features. But you’ll be doing more than just playing games on this device. You’ll use the ROG Phone 7 or ROG Phone 7 Ultimate for everyday stuff too, like taking a screenshot, capturing photos and video, and much more. But just how exactly do you take a screenshot on the ROG Phone 7?
Well that’s what this guide is here to tell you. We’ll walk you through the steps to take screenshots on the device so you can save whatever your little heart desires. In fact, taking a screenshot is a pretty simple process. So let’s get into it.
How to take a screenshot on the ASUS ROG Phone 7
Taking a screenshot on the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is quite easy and it will definitely feel like second nature to you rather quickly. But that being said, there is more than one way to take a screenshot on this phone. So this guide will walk you through the native methods.
Let’s start with the most basic method for taking a screenshot that most people who use an Android phone should be familiar with.
To take a screenshot with the tried and true method, simply hold down the volume down button and the power simultaneously. You only need to hold them for about one second and the screenshot will pop up. The animation for this will look a little different based on the version of Android you’re running.
But since this is the ROG Phone 7 and it comes with Android 13 out of the box, what you’ll see is a quick preview of the screenshot you just took. Which then shrinks down to a small preview in the bottom left corner of the screen, accompanied by options to edit it and share it and such. As mentioned of course, there are other ways to take a screenshot on this phone. And you may find using some of these other methods to be more pleasing or just easier.
Other ways to take a screenshot on the ROG Phone 7
ASUS phones have more than one way to take a screenshot and believe me when I say that some of them will be super useful if you’re wanting to take one while playing games. With that, let’s get into it.
Double tap gesture
The double tap gesture method is one of my favorite ways to take a screenshot. But I don’t personally use it all the time. Because I’m still so used to the power button and volume down method, I always default to this for screenshots in most situations. But the double tap gesture is great for when I want to take a screenshot playing games, because it’s just easier to implement. Here’s how you get this working.
Start by launching the settings menu.
Scroll down to advanced settings and select this menu.
Look for the Gestures segment which should be denoted by a ‘Gestures’ label in colored text. Look for the ‘Back double tap’ toggle and enable this.
Also make sure that taking a screenshot is the selected function when you do the double tap. There are multiple functions you can have this gesture implement. To select the function, tap on the word “back double tap” and it’ll bring up a menu with a list of functions for this gesture. Screenshot should be the first one. Select this if it’s not already the default for you.
Quick settings
This is another really simple way to take a screenshot and some might prefer this method. Start by dragging down your notification shade to open the quick settings menu. This is where you’ll see all those buttons for enabling different stuff like your WiFi, mobile data, Bluetooth, airplane mode and more. Screenshot will be one of these options.
If you don’t see it, you can tap the edit button (a little pencil button on the right side of the quick settings menu) to add it. If it is there, simply tap the screenshot button and the quick settings menu will go back up, and then a screenshot will be taken of whatever screen you’re on shortly after.
The three finger swipe
Another easy method for taking a screenshot with this device is the three fingers screenshot. This is another gesture and will need to be enabled.
To turn this on, start by dragging down the quick settings menu.
Scroll to find the Screenshot button, then long press it instead of tapping it. This will open a screenshot-specific menu.
Turn on the toggle for ‘Three fingers screenshot.’ Then to implement this method all you have to is tap three fingers to the screen and swipe down. This will take the screenshot. You can also tap on the words ‘Three fingers screenshot’ in the menu to turn on yet another toggle that will allow this method to work while gaming.
Recent apps screen
This is an odd place for it to be, but believe it or not you can actually take a screenshot from the recent apps screen. On the ROG Phone 7 you can open recent apps from either the swipe upward from the bottom edge (if you have gesture navigation enabled), or by pressing the actual button for recent apps if gesture navigation is not turned on.
Once the recent apps screen is open, you’ll see “screenshot” as an option in the bottom left corner. Simply tap that and you’re good to go.
Power button menu
Another option is hiding in the power button menu. Simply press and hold the power button down like you’re going to turn the phone off and you’ll see an option to take a screenshot here. Tap that option and boom, screenshot.
Using Google Assistant
Naturally, you can have Google Assistant take a screenshot for you as well. Simply say, “Hey Google, take a screenshot” and Google will oblige.
That’s all the methods that I could find on this device, though there is also likely other ways to take screenshots through the use of third-party apps you can grab from the Play Store. And there may be methods baked into third-party home launchers as well. So that’s something worth considering if you venture into that realm.
Otherwise, you can use any of the methods above to get any screenshots you need.
