The epic journey of Paul Atreides continues in the first trailer for director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. Released courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures, Dune: Part Two promises to be far more action-packed and even more intense than its critically acclaimed predecessor, and finds Paul Atreides fighting to live up to his destiny. Check out the new trailer for Dune: Part Two below.
The first Dune outing covers the first half of the source novel, with Dune: Part Two set to depict the second. Thus, the follow-up will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Dune: Part Two will introduce Academy Award nominee and Elvis star Austin Butler as the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, with the trailer offering our first look at the character. The younger nephew of Baron Harkonnen, and the intended successor on Arrakis, Butler will appear unrecognizable in the sci-fi sequel. His role in Dune: Part Two has been teased by co-star and fellow Harkonnen Dave Bautista, who has described his performance as “terrifying.”
“He’s just the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet,” Bautista said. “I don’t know who this guy was, but it’s not Austin Butler. It’s not Elvis. His voice is different, his look is different. Everything about his demeanor is terrifying.”
Dune: Part Two Is Due to Land in Theaters in November
Much like its predecessor, Dune: Part Two will feature a large ensemble cast, adding several new A-listers to the already hugely impressive roster. The Dune sequel will once again be led by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, who will be joined by several familiar faces such as Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Dune: Part Two will also bring in Midsommar and Black Widow star Florence Pugh, Elvis actor Austin Butler, Hollywood icon Christopher Walken, Crimes of the Future’s Léa Seydoux, and finally Swiss actress Souheila Yacoub.
Released in 2021, the first Dune is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal novel and hurls audiences into the far future as Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, “melange,” AKA “the spice.” Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisors to Arrakis, where a bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.
Starring an all-star cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, and Jason Momoa, Dune was showered with awards including an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and wins for Best Original Score and Best Cinematography, among others. Dune: Part Two sees director Denis Villeneuve return to the helm alongside cinematographer Greig Fraser, composer Hans Zimmer, visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert, and special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer.
