Harrison Ford returns as the legendary hero archeologist in the latest trailer for the highly anticipated fifth installment of the iconic Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Released courtesy of Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will feature Ford as the iconic character for the final time. Check out the new trailer below.
The fifth outing in the beloved franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will once again follow Harrison Ford as the intrepid adventurer now living against the backdrop of the Space Race. But Jones is uneasy over the fact that the U.S. Government has recruited former Nazis to help beat the Soviet Union in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey, with the pair attempting to stop Jürgen Voller, a NASA member, and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, who wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit.
Directed by James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari, Logan), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (Das Boot), Toby Jones (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Oliver Richters (Black Widow), Ethann Isidore (Mortel) and Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore).
Produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will also feature a score by composing legend John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Will Debut at the Cannes Film Festival
One of the most exciting elements of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the use of de-aging, which will transport an 80-year-old Harrison Ford back to his golden years. “It reminds the audience of the contrast between a hero in his physical prime and a hero at 70,” director James Mangold explained:
“We’re not relying solely on the audience’s memory of the previous films. It reminds everyone what he’s done, what he’s survived, what he’s accomplished. By showing him in his most hearty and then finding him at 70 in New York City, it produces for the audience a kind of wonderful whiplash of how they’re going to have to readjust and retool their brains for this guy.”
After much speculation, it has now been confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will make its debut at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. “In 1995, I was honored to come to Cannes with my first film as part of Director’s Fortnite,” James Mangold shared in a statement. “Twenty-eight years later, I am proud to return with a slightly larger spectacle. My legendary collaborators and I are very excited to share a brand new and final Indiana Jones adventure with you!”
After premiering at Cannes, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on June 30, 2023.
