Cadejo Blanco is the third feature film from writer-director Justin Lerner. He was inspired to make the movie by the high rate of violent crime and gang-related deaths in the port city of Puerto Barrios, Izabal. Lerner personally visited and spoke with current and former gang members for his research. The filmmaker says he relied heavily on the biographies of young people he met from the gangs of Puero Barrios when putting together the script for his film, following a young teenager Sarita. It’s also the first feature film to be set in Puerto Barrios and the first USA/Guatemala/Mexico co-production.
Sadly, one of the cast members, Geobanny Alvarado, was murdered after the shoot had wrapped, showing just how real the subject matter is in the film. He played a vital role for the film from both sides of the camera, and it is dedicated to his memory.
“One of the small hopes I have for those who watch Cadejo Blanco is that they will be able to feel like they got to live in Puerto Barrios for a few hours,” Lerner said of the project. “I also hope that in watching the film they felt they got to know Alvarado, and his cast-mates, and will miss spending time with them when the film is over, as I do.”

The movie stars Karen Martinez as Sarita, Rudy Rodriguez as Andres, Pamela Martinez as Bea, Brandon Lopez as Damian, and Juan Pablo Olyslsager as Oliveiros. Along with writing and directing, Justin Lerner also served as producer alongside Mauricio Escobar, Ryan Friedkin, and Jack Hurley. It was executive produced by Cesar Diaz, Pamela Guinea, Gino Falsetto, Juan I. Ayau, and Francisco Palarea Sinibaldi.
The official synopsis for Cadejo Blanco is as follows:
Sarita’s sister doesn’t come home one night after a party. With an unwavering determination to uncover the truth about what happened, Sarita becomes increasingly involved with Andrés and the ruthless, violent world of his gang.
