Samsung‘s 2023 smartwatches may look more premium than last year’s models. The company has reportedly cut the bezel around the display this year, giving you more screen space without increasing the watch’s size. According to noted tipster Ice Universe, the biggest Galaxy Watch 6 model will sport a 1.47-inch display. The past four generations of Samsung smartwatches featured a 1.4-inch display on their biggest models.
Galaxy Watch 6 rumored to feature bigger screens
Samsung is rumored to bring back the much-loved physical rotating bezel on its smartwatches this year. There will be reportedly four size variants in total: 40mm and 44mm Galaxy Watch 6 without a bezel ring and 42mm and 46mm Galaxy Watch 6 Classic with the iconic ring on the top. The former two could get a curved glass design for a sleek look. The latter two will have a more sporty look thanks to the bezel ring.
It appears Samsung will give the new watches further design refinement by reducing the display bezel. A 1.47-inch screen on the 44mm and 46mm models means a 0.07-inch (almost 1.8mm) thinner bezel than before. While we don’t have any numbers to share with you, we expect similar improvements on 40mm and 42mm models as well. Those watches featured a 1.2-inch display in the past.
The source is “100% confirmed” about this information. They add that Samsung has also improved the display resolution, though they didn’t share the precise detail. The bigger models of the previous Galaxy Watch series had a resolution of 450 x 450 pixels, while the smaller ones had 396 x 396 pixels. All of these changes should make the Galaxy Watch 6 series look more premium than older Samsung smartwatches.
There may not be a “Pro” model this year
If you remember, Samsung launched a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro last year. It was a 45mm watch with a massive 590mAh battery. The Korean firm prioritized battery capacity and axed the bezel ring. The 40mm and 44mm models also lacked it. But the physical bezel is returning this year, and so is the “Classic” branding. Moreover, Samsung is readying four Galaxy Watch 6 models as it did in 2021. All of this suggests we will not get a “Pro” model with a big battery this year.
We can’t entirely rule out this possibility just yet, though. If Samsung sees a market for a 45mm/46mm Galaxy Watch 6 Pro with a big battery and without a bezel ring, there’s still time for it. The new watches aren’t expected to arrive before August this year. They will debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z FLip 5 foldables. A new pair of TWS earbuds may also debut on the same day. We will keep you posted on these upcoming Samsung products.
