Leaks about Samsung‘s Galaxy Tab S9 series are piling up. Over the past few days, we have learned some key specs of the upcoming tablets and also saw the Plus model in early renders. Today, we have confirmation that the entire lineup will support the S Pen. This was never a doubt, to be honest. The leaked renders have already shown a magnetic strip on the back of the device to attach the accessory. But it’s always nice to have documented proof.
The proof that the Galaxy Tab S9 series will support the S Pen has come in the form of a Bluetooth SIG certification. The agency recently certified a Samsung S Pen with the model number EJ-PX710.
Looking back into earlier leaks, we see that SM-X710 is the model number of the Wi-Fi variant of the base Galaxy Tab S9. This confirms that the newly-certified S Pen that features Bluetooth 5.1 is built for the upcoming Galaxy tablet. And the base model getting the smart stylus pen means the Galaxy Tab S9+ and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will as well.
This listing on the Bluetooth SIG’s website doesn’t reveal anything else about the new Samsung tablets or the S Pen. It’s unclear if it’s the same stylus pen that the company shipped with last year’s tablets.
For reference, the S Pen that came with the Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra has a latency of 2.8ms, down from 5.6ms on the Galaxy Tab S7+. That for the base Galaxy Tab S8 is 6.2ms, another notable improvement from a latency of 9ms on the Galaxy Tab S7. Since the Galaxy S23 Ultra arrived with an unchanged S Pen, the Galaxy Tab S9 series will likely get last year’s solution too.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series will be dust and water resistant
Samsung may not upgrade the S Pen, but the Galaxy Tab S9 series will bring changes in other areas. Most notably, the new tablets are expected to offer an official IP (ingress protection) rating for dust and water resistance. Rumors are that the devices will boast an IP67 rating.
If true, these will be the first flagship Samsung tablets to have that certification. The company’s Xcover line of rugged tablets boasts an IP68 rating but they are never the ideal solution for the masses. Stay tuned to learn more about the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The new tablets will debut in the second half of 2023.
