Apple will announce iOS 17 later this year, and it may be a bigger update than initially reported. Back in January, Bloomberg’s Mark Gruman said that iOS 17 will have fewer major changes than Apple initially planned.

Well, he seems to have changed the tune now. In the latest edition of his Sunday newsletter, he revealed that iOS 17 won’t be just about ironing out bugs. He says that “the strategy changed”. Apple’s iOS 17 update is expected to offer several “nice to have” features.

Mark Gurman did mention that the update may lack “a tentpole improvement”, like the revamped lock screen from last year, but it seems like we’ll get more changes than expected.

Apple doesn’t really have a tendency to change a whole lot from one update to the next. Last year’s update, iOS 16, was actually a major step forward for Apple. The all-new lock screen, live activities, and various other features were introduced. All of that affected the stability of the system, as iOS 16 was rather buggy to begin with.

That’s not something Apple users are used to, so Apple was expected to take things slow with iOS 17, and focus on ironing things out. It seems like iOS 17 won’t be as big of an update as iOS 16, but we may still see some notable changes.

It’s codenamed ‘Dawn’, and it could launch in June

This update is codenamed ‘Dawn’, by the way, which is something Mark Gurman revealed back in January. He did not reveal any specifics just yet, but there are some rumors out there.

Believe it or not, iOS 17 is rumored to allow sideloading. A revamp of iMessage is also expected. That is basically everything that is rumored thus far, we’ll have to wait in order to get more information.

You’re probably wondering when will iOS 17 launch, though. Well, Apple will probably make it official on June 5, at its Worldwide Developers Conference. It will, however, start rolling out in September.
