Unihertz has a rather interesting phone on display in Barcelona, at MWC 2023. The phone’s name is Unihertz Luna, and it’s not exactly difficult to notice that this phone got its inspiration from the Nothing Phone (1).
The Unihertz Luna was spotted at MWC 2023, and it’s definitely inspired by the Nothing Phone (1)
Hadlee Simons shared images of the device on Twitter, along with its specs. A couple of hours later, Carl Pei, Nothing’s CEO, paid a visit to the Unihertz booth. He then proceeded to grab a picture of the Unihertz Luna next to the Nothing Phone (1), as shown below.
You will clearly notice the LEDs on the back, though in a different shape entirely compared to the Nothing Phone (1). Unihertz is aiming at an entirely different market with this phone, though, as it will be considerably more affordable.
Unihertz said that the phone will cost “no more than $300”. The Nothing Phone (1) is priced at €469,0, for comparison’s sake. That’s not a monumental difference, but still, it’s worth noting.
Unihertz also got its inspiration from Apple’s ‘Pro’ phones
The Unihertz Luna did not get its inspiration from the Nothing Phone (1) alone. If you take a look at its camera setup on the back, you’ll see a very familiar layout. This looks similar to the layout Apple has been using for a couple of years now on its ‘Pro’ models.
Now, when it comes to specs, well, this is a budget phone. It is fueled by the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC. It includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage.
A 5,000mAh battery is included in the phone, and the device supports 18W charging. Yes, the charger will be included in the box too. Android 12 comes pre-installed, while there are two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM) here.
A programmable key is available on the device, and so is an audio jack. The phone offers 4G connectivity, and has three cameras on the back. The spec sheet Unihertz shared is a bit confusing, though.
It features a 108MP main camera
A 108-megapixel camera is listed, we presume that is the main camera. The spec sheet says 108MP + 2MP Macro Lens. Will the 108MP camera serve as a macro lens? Well, it’s possible, as a 32-megapixel camera is also listed, as is a 20MP “Night Vision” camera. It’s a bit confusing, as only three cameras are supposed to be included on the back.
This phone will launch in March, but we still don’t know when exactly.
