Sony’s latest PlayStation State Of Play event is happening later this afternoon, and it’s the first event of the year, so you’ll want to watch it if you want to see some new footage for PS VR2 and PS5 games. If you’re unfamiliar with the PlayStation State Of Play, it’s a livestream event that Sony typically holds every few months.
Sometimes the events are focused on a single game. But other times, like today, the events are reserved for numerous new game reveals. Sony says that today’s event will be nearly a half an hour of game reveals for both the PS5 and the PS VR2. And while there’s no hints on what the games could be, there are certainly a few titles players are probably hoping to learn more about.
Could Sony show off more about upcoming Final Fantasy titles? Maybe some new information about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or new footage of Final Fantasy XVI? It’s tough to say if Sony will have any surprises. And while fans of Final Fantasy, or other franchises can certainly hope for updates, viewers shouldn’t get their hopes up. Instead, it’s best to go into these events with zero expectations and just enjoy the stream.
How to watch the February 23 PlayStation State of Play event
Sony will be holding the livestream on its two usual channels. YouTube and Twitch. So you can tune into the Twitch channel here or watch the event through YouTube from the video above.
The livestream begins at 1pm PT and will probably last until about 1:30pm PT. It won’t be a long event, but then again the State Of Play streams never really are. It’s also possible to watch the stream directly on your PlayStation console if you have the YouTube app installed. If you prefer to watch the streams that way.
What to expect during the livestream
Sony isn’t dropping any major details about what we’ll see. But it did mention that this livestream will have reveals and updates for PS5 and PS VR2. Specifically, Sony says the livestream will contain “new looks at some anticipated upcoming releases, as well as a first glimpse at five PlayStation VR2 games set to arrive later this year.”
This doesn’t necessarily suggest the reveals will be for big, AAA games with a lot of hype surrounding them. And if you want to avoid any sort of disappointment, it’s probably best to go into watching the stream without any expectations as we mentioned above.
That being said, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming a little bit and hoping to see something you’re excited for. In addition to reveals for these games, today’s PlayStation State Of Play should also include “more than 15 minutes of all-new gameplay details” on the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady.
Now that the PS VR2 is officially out and people have started receiving their headsets, players can turn their attention to games for the hardware.
