This week Nintendo held its latest Direct to showcase a bunch of games, one of which flew under our radar until now called Omega Strikers, and surprise, it has an official launch date! To celebrate the announcement development studio Odyssey Interactive put out a new trailer (viewable during the Nintendo Direct stream) that showcases some pretty wild and dare I say fun gameplay. If you want to check out the official gameplay trailer from a few months back, you can check that out below.
At first glance, one thing comes to mind. Omega Strikers is basically air hockey meets League of Legends. Something which doesn’t seem so surprising when you know that Odyssey Interactive was founded by former Riot Games employees. See, the goal of the game is to score goals, like you would in air hockey. You control a character and kick this disc across the arena attempting to score points. There are a wide range of different playable characters called ‘Strikers’ to choose from, too. And each one has unique abilities to assist in scoring goals.
Matches are also 3v3 and based online with multiplayer PvP elements. All-in-all, it looks like a fun approach to a game formula that sometimes feels like it’s been beat to death.
Omega Strikers has a launch date of April 27
If you’re eager to check this game out for yourself when it drops later this year, you won’t have a very long wait. Odyssey Interactive has confirmed the game will launch on April 27. It’s also coming to multiple platforms. This includes Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and PC via Steam. And best of all, is that cross-play and cross-progression are fully supported on every one of those platforms.
So if you wanted to play on mobile, PC, and Switch, you certainly could. And your game progress would travel with you. All the while being able to team up with friends no matter which platform any of you were on.
When the game launches there will be 15 strikers to choose from, but more will be added in the future. Additionally, there are future plans to release the game onto other consoles, but Odyssey doesn’t have anything specifically to share at this time.
