PS5 lifetime sales are now above 32.1 million units since the console’s launch back in 2020. And 7.1 million of those unit sales are from this most recent quarter alone. Making it a prime indicator that Sony’s days of having issues with the supply chain are indeed behind it. For comparison, Sony sold 7.8 million PS5s back during its launch quarter. Which means this is Sony’s biggest quarter for sales of the console since those first few months it was available.

The 7.1 million unit sales this quarter are also nearly double what Sony did the same quarter last year (3.9 million). That’s a big increase, and it possibly spells good things ahead for the company. Last November, Sony said it wanted to reach a goal of 18 million PS5s sold from March 31 of 2022 to March 31 of 2023. At the time, the company said in an earnings report that it was predicting it would fall short of this goal. But now it looks like that goal could be within reach. So long as Sony can sell another 5.2 million consoles for the quarter ending next month.

PS5 lifetime sales could reach 37 million by the end of next month

Sony’s fiscal year 2022 is over at the end of next month. Which means it’s already one month into that quarter and it has two months left to go to reach 37 million units sold. That definitely seems doable now. Especially with the supply chain issues drying up. While this is all great news for Sony, it’s also great news for consumers. Sony hitting these sales targets shows just how over the supply chain issues really are.

And soon enough, you might be able to just stroll into a Best Buy and pick up a PS5. You can already purchase one from PlayStation Direct without having to wait in a queue and hopefully be selected to buy one. You can just, add it to cart and check out.

In addition to Sony’s increase in PS5 sales, the company has also seen an increase in revenue from its Games & Network Services segment by a total of 53% year-on-year.
