Twitter now allows its users to appeal the suspension of their accounts. This is the first time after Elon Musk’s takeover that the company is open to public appeals.
Shortly after Elon Musk could complete the acquisition, he gave “amnesty” to suspended accounts. After that, some previously suspended users like Donald Trump, Jordan Peterson, and Andrew Tate could return to the platform. Twitter now has a plan to reinstate regular users’ suspended accounts.
According to the latest company announcement, users can submit their requests through an online form. Of course, this form is only accessible to those users who can log into the previously locked or suspended account.
Twitter opens an online form for appealing account suspension
In the early days of Musk’s takeover, Twitter was targeted by a coordinated trolling campaign that led to the suspension of many accounts. Additionally, the platform may have suspended other accounts for reasons like anti-semitic tweets or spam. However, Twitter announced a new policy earlier this week to take “less severe actions” against accounts that break the rules.
“Going forward, we will take less severe actions, such as limiting the reach of policy-violating Tweets or asking you to remove Tweets before you can continue using your account,” Twitter noted. According to the new policy, account suspension remains the last punitive measure against accounts that repeatedly violate Twitter policies. The company also expects to receive a “high volume” of requests.
Twitter also said it has new criteria for reinstatement, and appeal requests will be evaluated based on that. Of course, it remains to be seen what those criteria are and how long the reinstatement process takes.
After a few stormy months, Twitter is now spending calm days and is gradually returning to normal. The platform has recently got a new timeline feature, and a font change is reportedly on the way. Besides adding new features, the platform killed CoTweets. The feature was launched in July 2022 and allowed two users to be known as the author. This is the same feature that Instagram offers as Collab Post.
