Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2 will see Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston reunite for another globe-trotting comedy mystery.
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are back in the Netflix comedy sequel Murder Mystery 2. Netflix has released a new trailer for the sequel, which once again sees Nick and Audrey Spitz (Sandler and Aniston, respectively) caught up in events beyond their control as they attempt to solve a murder. Check out the new trailer below.
Murder Mystery was an unexpected success when it was released on Netflix, smashing records for viewership at the time and giving Sandler one of his more successful comedy outings of recent years. However, critic reviews were not exactly glowing, but like many other Netflix movies, that didn’t stop a sequel from being green-lit based on viewership and a reasonable audience reaction. Murder Mystery 2 has the synopsis:
“Four years after solving their first murder mystery, Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston) are now full-time detectives struggling to get their private eye agency off the ground when they’re invited to celebrate the wedding of their friend the Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) on his private island. But trouble follows the Spitzes again when the groom is kidnapped for ransom soon after the festivities begin — making each glamorous guest, family member, and the bride herself a suspect. Murder Mystery 2 sends Nick and Audrey Spitz on a high-stakes case that finally gives them everything they’ve ever dreamed of: a shot at their detective agency finally becoming successful…and their long-awaited trip to Paris.”
Adam Sandler Has Become Better Known for His Dramatic Roles
While Adam Sandler made his name as a comedy actor in movies such as The Waterboy and Anger Management, the star has become much better known recently for dramatic roles in films such as Uncut Gems, which have gained him a ton of critical acclaim and helped to smooth out some of the rough reviews his comedy movies have been given.
While Murder Mystery was not on the receiving end of unanimous praise, the reviews of his movies are not something that Sandler has become too hung up on. When previously asked if bad reviews “sting,” he said:
“Sometimes. Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me, and I wish they didn’t have to read sh*t about whatever we’ve made. I don’t’ get too shook up. I always remember something my father said. He said, ‘Adam, you can’t always be happy. People aren’t always going to like you. You’re going to fail.’ I said, “But I just want to be happy, man. I don’t want all that other crap.’ He said, ‘You won’t actually know you’re happy if you don’t feel that other stuff.”
Hopefully, Sandler and Aniston, along with co-stars including Mark Strong, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Dany Boon, will have done enough to avoid the kind of terrible reviews that the likes of Jack & Jill and The Ridiculous 6 received. Regardless, the film already has a fan base eagerly awaiting the return of the crime-loving couple, and that will more than likely help make Murder Mystery 2 another Netflix hit.
Murder Mystery 2 will debut on Netflix on March 31, 2023.
