GoldenEye 007 was a smash hit back during the days of the N64, and last Fall Rare announced it would be coming to the Xbox (via Xbox Game Pass) as well as Nintendo Switch consoles. This week, Microsoft officially announced that GoldenEye 007 would be dropping on Xbox on January 27 alongside the Switch release. Meaning you now have less than 24 hours before you can revisit this classic N64 shooter that took the world by storm.

Based on the movie of the same name, GoldenEye 007 offered N64 gamers a fun solo experience. But the title’s immense popularity came in the form of its multiplayer. This allowed you to go head-to-head against up to three friends via split-screen. That same capability is still there in this re-release, too. So if you feel so inclined, you and a few pals can huddle around the big screen for a nostalgic deathmatch. Interestingly, only the Switch version will feature online multiplayer.

Both versions though will support a new 16:9 aspect ratio. As well as up to 4K support and a better refresh rate. The game also now has more control options like dual analog stick support.

GoldenEye 007 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass for PC

Unlike most Game Pass games, you won’t be able to play this one on your PC. You’ll need to have an Xbox console to access it through the service. It will however be available on both Xbox One and the new Xbox Series X|S. And it’ll be available free of charge if you own a digital copy of the Rare Replay collection.

The lack of availability on PC is a bit of an odd move. But without online multiplayer it does sort of make sense to limit the game to Xbox consoles. As you’re unlikely to gather around a PC monitor with three friends. Either way, if you’re eager to revisit the fun of this classic title, it might be time to pick up an Xbox. Especially since the Xbox Series S is more widely available now.
