Razer just made the Kishi V2 controller infinitely more useful

The Razer Kishi V2 just became even better than it already was, thanks to new compatibility with touch-only games. Last year, Razer launched the second version of its highly praised Kishi mobile controller. The updated design was not only more comfortable to hold, but it also opened up use to more phones.

This meant users with devices that had off-center USB-C ports could finally use Razer’s mobile controller. More than that though, the Kishi V2 added mecha-tactile action buttons, and two programmable buttons up top by the triggers. Overall, it’s just a really solid follow-up to one of the best mobile controllers available. And today Razer is making the Kishi V2 even better by adding support for touch-only games. There is one caveat though worth mentioning.

Touch-only games support is exclusive to the Kishi V2 for Android

If there’s one downside to using a mobile controller, it’s that they don’t really work with touch-only games. Or at least, most of them don’t. Some, such as ASUS’s ROG Kunai gamepad, offer virtual button mapping. That’s essentially what Razer is offering with the Kishi V2 in this upgrade. Although, it only works with the Android version of the controller. Razer doesn’t mention whether or not this will eventually be added to the iPhone model.

But it does state that it will come to the Razer Edge (which is bundled with the Kishi V2 Pro) in Q1 of 2023. That means the update will land before the end of March. If you’ve got a Razer Kishi V2 or you plan on picking up the Razer Edge, enabling support for touch-only games is pretty simple.

To start, you will need to update the Razer Nexus app available in the Google Play Store. Once you have the app installed or updated, go into the settings and enable the toggle for ‘Virtual Controller Mode.’ After that, simply launch a game then configure the controls using the on-screen overlay. And that’s it.

One quick note worth mentioning is that this feature is still in beta. That doesn’t mean you’ll run into any issues. But don’t be surprised if you do. And if you don’t have a Razer Kishi V2 yet, you can pick one up here.
