We all had high hopes for Google’s Stadia cloud-based gaming service. However, the announced last year that it was pulling the plug on the service. This upset users, as the service wasn’t all that old. While the company has been getting ready to send the services down the river, it launched a surprise game. Google just released Worm Game to Stadia days before its demise.
Over the past couple of months, Google has been getting Stadia packed up. This includes handing out refunds to people who recently purchased a Stadia controller. The company gave people the ability to transfer their saves to their PCs. Also, people who purchased Ubisoft games were handed PC copies of games they purchased for Stadia.
Google releases Worm Game to Stadia at the last minute
If you have a Stadia device, you’re probably not in the market for any new games at the moment. However, don’t scrap your controller just yet. The Stadia team posted a new tweet letting us know that it’s not quite done. The team just released Worm Game to the ill-fated platform.
Some people may think that the news of Stadia shutting down was so sudden that even the team didn’t get the news yet. However, that’s not the case. The Stadia team is releasing this game as a last-minute “Thank you” to the players who used the platform all this time (via Techradar).
You might have seen one last game arrive on Stadia today. It’s a humble 🧡 thanks 💜 for playing from our team.

Undoubtedly, many Stadia users were miffed at the news of the shutdown, so there’s not much that can assuage the situation. However, releasing a game in the final hours doesn’t really hurt.
What is this game? Well, it’s “the game that came to Stadia before Stadia came to the world.” It’s a simple title that the Stadia team used to test out several features for the platform. This game was used well before the first beta launch of the platform back in 2019.
It’s a game similar to Snake. You start off with a little worm, and you grow in length as you eat fruits and vegetables in your path. You need to avoid running into obstacles or yourself on your path to eating all of the food.
