TCL announced a bunch of exciting new stuff at CES 2023. Among the announcements, TCL introduced us to the new TCL 40 Series phones. There are a lot of devices in this line like the TCL 408, TCL 405, TCL 403, TCL 40 R 5G, and TCL 40 SE. These all provide a unique experience with different areas of focus.
The TCL 40 SE was announced at CES 2023
This phone is going to be a pretty decent mid-range phone with some neat features to augment the experience. For starters, it’s going to sport a large 6.75-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1600. That’s a pretty low resolution, even by mid-ranger standards, but it does benefit from TCL’s NXTVISION technology. This upscales SDR content to HDR. This makes for better visuals overall. If the display is anything like the TCL Stylus 5G’s, then you’ll get amazing visuals. Not only that, but this display also runs at 90Hz.
As for the internals, this phone will use the MediaTek Helio G37 SoC. This is an octa-core SoC with four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. This is back up by 4GB/6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB/256GB of EEMC storage.
Moving onto the camera, the TCL 40 SE will sport a triple-camera setup with a 50MP main camera. TCL is touting AI technology that will automatically optimize the images. Along with that sensor, there will be a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Up front, this phone has an 8MP selfie camera.
If you’re planning on using this phone all day, then you won’t have an issue in that department. The TCL 40 SE comes with a large 5010mAh battery. This, coupled with the less pixel-dense display should amount to great battery life. You should expect to get more than a full day’s use out of this phone.
On the software front, the TCL 40 SE will come with Android 13 out of the box running on top of TCL UI 5. We’re still waiting on the price and availability at the moment.
