Fans finally have their first taste of Evil Dead Rise, and the plapable horror has franchise fans excited for the next level of Evil Dead terror.

Evil Dead Rise has been teased many times over the last few months by producer and long-term franchise star Bruce Campbell and director Lee Cronin, and fans finally have their first good look at the new level of horror coming in the latest installment in the franchise. The new trailer was teased yesterday by Bruce Campbell, who doesn’t appear in the movie but, as he says himself, has certainly kept his hand in – not a severed, possessed one either. Now the trailer is here and delivers a taste of the blood-drenched terror that is coming to theaters this April.

The Evil Dead has been an iconic entry in the world of horror since its debut in 1981 but has always chosen to stick with a formula that is about to be broken. The cabin in the woods is no longer the central location for the unleashed nightmares of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis as the setting becomes a high-rise apartment block. Additionally, the movie will also bring in an element of family that has never been seen before in the franchise, with a number of children now thrown into the middle of the horrific goings-on.

The movie’s synopsis reads:

“A road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

Having been the core of the Evil Dead franchise from its conception, Bruce Campbell is the best spokesperson for Evil Dead Rise. While he may have hung up his chainsaw and will not appear as Ash Williams in the movie, no one is more enthusiastic about the project than Campbell. Last year, Campbell said of the new film:

“It’s a house of fire is what it is. It’s going to scare the living crap out of you. It’s urban, no cabin in the woods. An urban high-rise apartment is the cabin. It’s a single mom and her family and it’s going to be some bad juju happening there. It’s going to be horrible, but in the best way. The trick it to try and keep something of the Evil Dead legacy within the filmmaking, so I was there for the post production sound that we did in Europe. So we snuck in a few of the original Evil Dead sound effects from the original movie, because we have them all digital now. So my job is to sneak stuff in and infect his movie with some of the Evil Dead stuff. My voice is in it too.”

Evil Dead Rise will arrive in theaters on April 21, 2023.
