We all know that, since Nest is owned by Google, its products are tightly integrated with Google’s software. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case. Wear OS users are dealing with the issue of previews from their Nest Cam devices missing. This is even true for Google’s own Pixel Watch.
You want to be able to know what’s going on in and around your house, and this is why Google’s Nest Cams can work with the company’s Wear OS operating system. This is useful because you’re able to get a glimpse of what’s going on by simply looking at your wrist. This eliminates the need for users to take out their phones to view what the cameras see.
But, Nest Cam previews are missing from Wear OS
This issue arose because of a change that Google made. Back in the day, Nest Cams would be able to show previews within their Wear OS notifications. You would see a few frames captured from the cameras that show you what happened to trigger it. So, if a camera detects motion, it will show you what caused it to activate.
However, that was all managed through the Nest app. According to 9To5Google, since then, Google has moved Nest Cams over to the Google Home app. This is what caused the issue. Using the Google Home app, you cannot see the previews. You will only get a text-based notification. So, if you wanted to see what was going on, you’d have to go to the camera itself.
This is, undoubtedly, very frustrating for people who are used to seeing the previews. In a funny turn of events, you can get the notification previews if you use an Apple Watch. That seems extremely odd, but there’s a chance that Google is working on bringing these previews to Wear OS eventually.
The made by Google Twitter account said that the company will mark this as a “feature request.” This means that it’s possible that the company will work on bringing these previews to Wear OS. However, there are no promises.
