Rockstar’s GTA V is quite the old game now at nearly a decade old, but that hasn’t stopped the studio from beefing up visuals for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with a new ray-tracing update. The patch, spotted by Eurogamer (via The Verge), seems to have been pushed out to consoles on December 13.
The support page for the game lists a ton of changes. Including new content available in GTA Online. Those venturing around Los Santos in the online mode will now have access to new story missions, freemode missions, and a new business that they can manage. There’s also new 8 new vehicles, the Acid Lab, and a new social space called The Freakshop.
If you’re most excited about the visual updates, then you’re in for a treat. The ray-traced reflections provide a pretty significant boost to the visual experience.
GTA V ray-tracing for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S really amp up the visuals
If you want a good display of what ray-tracing is really doing for the game, watch the video above. While it doesn’t incorporate the ray-traced reflections for the Xbox, they shouldn’t be much different from the PS5. With ray-tracing on, you’ll get enhanced reflections of your character in windows and highly reflective surfaces like vehicles with a chrome paint job.
Water also looks more natural. It’s a crazy display of how much of an impact something like ray-tracing can have on a game this old. Breathing new life into it like it just came out a couple of years ago. For the GTA V diehards, this is definitely an update you’ll want to install and take advantage of.
In addition to the ray-traced reflections, there’s quite a lengthy list of improvements. The economy has been updated to reward players with triple the amount of money on Smuggler’s Run Sell missions, for example. You can read the massive list of patch notes over at Rockstar’s GTA V support page if you feel like diving into the nitty gritty.
