According to a new report, both the Huawei P60 and Mate 60 flagships could launch in March 2023. This information comes from Gizchina, though no specific sources have been mentioned.

There were also rumors that Huawei may include Kirin chips into its upcoming smartphone, but that’s not true. Huawei denied such reports, saying that it won’t happen, at least not anytime soon.

The Huawei P60 & Mate 60 flagship may launch in March 2023, without Kirin chips

The US ban really managed to mess up Huawei’s plans in the last couple of years. Kirin chips are actually a part of it, the rules basically prevented Huawei from developing those chips properly. That’s also a shame, as Kirin chips were excellent right before the ban took place.

In any case, despite this report, we somehow doubt that both P60 and Mate 60 lineups will launch at the same time. That would be a first, but who knows, maybe Huawei is taking a different approach this time around.

The Huawei P60 may utilize the variable aperture feature from the Mate 50 Pro

We don’t have much information about either lineup yet, but some info did pop up. The base Huawei P60 model is tipped to include the Mate 50 Pro’s variable aperture feature.

The Mate 60 line could utilize a 4G-only variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro utilizes a 4G-only Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 model, so it makes sense. The Huawei P60 series could utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or 8+ Gen 1, based on the report. 4G variants, of course.

Huawei is still banned from using Google services… by the US

As many of you already know, Huawei is also prevented from installing Google services on its devices. That’s also a part of the US ban. Huawei did develop its own ecosystem based on Android, though.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro is an extremely compelling smartphone. We reviewed it not long ago, and it has excellent camera performance, one of the best out there. The phone is truly great, and it’s a true shame it doesn’t have Google services, though there are ways to use Google apps on it.
