Instagram is all about sharing pictures and videos, and it’s not much of a platform to just share text. However, it seems that the platform wants to change that. After testing it out for a while, Instagram is finally releasing Notes to the public.
All social media platforms have a text element to them, but when it comes to Instagram, there needs to be a picture or video attached. That’s not an issue, as Instagram is the picture and video platform. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any Instagram users who just want to share a quick update with their followers.
There is a way that they can do this, and that’s by posting stories. It’s either that or posting a long status update with the addition of a picture.
However, Instagram Notes cut out the middleman
This news comes straight from Meta. Instagram is starting to roll out the Notes feature to the public. This will allow people to post short text-based status updates to their profiles. It seems that Instagram has been taking “notes” from a few different social media platforms. For starters, there is a character limit, and it’s pretty restrictive. You have 60 characters to get your thoughts out. If you thought Twitter had a restrictive character limit, then you will have a hard time with Instagram.
Also, there’s a bit of influence from Snapchat, as your Notes will disappear after 24 hours. So, this isn’t meant to be a full-on replacement for something like Twitter or Facebook. This is mostly so that people can have a “lightweight, easy way to share what’s on their mind and start conversations.”
You can use a combination of text and emojis on your Notes, and replies to Notes will be delivered through DM’s. If you don’t see this feature just yet, don’t worry, the company is still rolling this out, and it will reach your phone eventually. In the meantime, make sure your Instagram app is fully up to date.
