No comic book fan in their right mind would surely say no to the notion of the director behind The Raid and its equally-impressive sequel tackling a DC adaptation inspired by martial arts cinema and Korean noir that featured Joe Manganiello’s grizzled mercenary in the lead role, so it’s easy to see why Deathstroke supporters are allowing their hopes to raise once again.

One of the many, many, many, many projects to be announced an unceremoniously canceled by the old Warner Bros. regime, the prospect of the R-rated actioner emerging from the bowels of development hell to live again has been gaining more traction than it has for years over the last couple of days.

Not only did Gareth Evans respond to a Twitter user demanding James Gunn resurrect Deathstroke (which the co-CEO liked), but poring through the Guardians of the Galaxy director’s feed with a fine-toothed comb has also led his followers to discover he liked all of the tweets that comprise the interaction you can see below.

Social media is awash with straw-clutching and uninformed speculation, but it’s easy to see why fans were quick to pick up on Gunn liking Deathstroke-related tweets from a conversation unfolding between co-creator Marv Wolfman and DC stalwart Gail Simone. Manganiello has refused to give up on his dream of making a significantly bigger splash than he was afforded the first time around, so we can only cross our fingers and hope the new boss feels the same way about the badass hired killer.
