Google just released the new update for its Pixel phones, and they brought some useful additions. One of the more notable changes is the ability to keep Wi-Fi on while your Pixel phone is in Airplane mode.

In case you don’t know what Airplane mode is, it’s an all-in-one toggle that disables all of the signals on your phone. This turns off Bluetooth, data, and Wi-Fi. If you need to completely disconnect your phone, Airplane mode is an easy solution.

However, there may come times when you will need to disable most of your signals while keeping Wi-Fi on. It’d be really tedious going and shutting off the other signals individually just to turn them back on when you were finished.

This is why Pixel phones can keep Wi-Fi on when they’re in Airplane mode

According to Droid Life, this latest feature came as part of the latest couper that just hit Pixel devices. If you turn on Airplane mode after getting the update, you’ll get a notification from the Android system. This will give you the option to leave Wi-Fi on when you activate Airplane mode.

What’s neat is that the system will remember your choice. So, if you typically have to turn on Airplane mode but keep Wi-Fi on, you won’t have to choose the option every time.

What else came with this new update?

With this new Android update for Pixel phones, Google added a couple of features for users to enjoy. This is the first QPR for Android 13. For starters, we have the typical slew of bug fixes and stability updates. The Pixel 7 phones themselves got over 70 fixes with this new update. There are also 44 security issues fixed.

But, let’s get down into the user-facing features, this QPR lets people remove the media player from the lock screen. If you go to your Settings, go to Sound and Vibration, and tap the Media button, you have the option to toggle the media player off on the lock screen.

The system-wide Pixel search bar has made a return. Google decided to get rid of it right before the August release, but it’s back in the beta. You can access this unified Pixel search feature by either tapping on the Google Search widget on the home screen or using the search bar in the app drawer.

When you use this feature, you’ll do a search on the web and through your phone. For example, if you search for Instagram, you will get standard Google search results on the app. Also, if you have Instagram installed on your phone, you’ll see a shortcut pop up in the search results. Tapping on it will take you right to the app.

Some of the Quick Settings got a few nifty little animations. When you tap on settings like the flashlight, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Hotspot, nightlight, dark theme, or Bluetooth, you’ll see a little animation play. Some of the animations are a bit more noticeable than others.
