The Game Awards 2022 was packed full of new game announcements and world premieres, including Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The game is being developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, set for release sometime in 2023.
Armored Core, in the most basic of explanations, is a game about mech battles. But there’s definitely more complexity to it than that. It’s been more than 10 years since the last Armored Core game, so there’s a good chance FromSoftware has learned quite a bit from its successes with the Souls Borne titles and applied some of it to the upcoming Armored Core VI release.
During the reveal trailer there isn’t really a whole lot shown. Other than some flashy cinematics to help paint the landscape and potentially the backstory. One thing for certain though is that the trailer definitely succeeds in being able to manifest excitement. Even for those who have never played an Armored Core game, it’ll no doubt be hard to ignore an upcoming release from one of gaming’s most famed developers.
Armored Core VI will have tons of mech customization
Beyond the mech battles, mech building and customization is a “core” component of the Armored Core games. It not only adds variety in terms of the fights, but the customization can feel like a whole other game in itself.
With the ability to mix and match parts of all kinds, you can easily spend hours customizing your own special mech. And Armored Core VI will stick to that part of the formula. Though FromSoftware will have new elements to introduce to the series too.
In an official press release, FromSoftware states that Armored Core VI will contain familiar mechanics like “freely reconfiguring parts to make your own mech, and the ability to take control and make your way through a wide range of stages.” But the game will also now introduce the groundbreaking gameplay found in its more recent action games. Such as the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring.
Players will be able to “rapidly change between ranged combat and close-quarters melee” to overwhelm opponents with rapid, full three-dimensional movement. Armored Core will release in 2023 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
