New Camera update brings better Macro control to Pixel 7 Pro

There’s a new version of the Google Camera rolling out, which brings a few new settings for the Macro mode on Google’s Pixel 7 Pro. This includes a Macro Focus mode, so you can keep the camera in Macro instead of it going in and out, depending on how you move your phone.

In the launch version of Google Camera for the Pixel 7 Pro, it would automatically switch in and out of macro. Without any real control over it. Which did frustrate a few users. Now, with this update, you can choose to turn macro on and off, and also keep it locked while you get the correct shot.

Now, in the settings for version 8.7.250, which is currently rolling out, you can turn off Auto Macro. This would essentially automatically switch to Macro mode when you get very close to a subject. If you don’t want that happening, you can just turn it off, and voila. There is also a toggle in the quick settings section of the camera app, so you can more easily turn off auto macro, or turn it on or off. A lot like Top Shot.

This update also removes the double-tap action

This new update for the camera app also apparently removes the double-tap option in the Gestures section. So you could use double-tap to zoom in and do a few other things. But now that option is completely gone.

I can’t say that I used that a whole lot myself, so it’s unclear how upset some Pixel 7 Pro users will be with the removal of this option. But it wouldn’t be surprising to see Google add it back in a future update.

This new update for the Google Camera is currently rolling out, and you should get it within the next few days. It’s version 8.7.250.
