The official synopsis for I Am DB Cooper is as follows:
Two bounty hunter brothers encounter an ailing old man named Rodney Bonnifield while coordinating his bail after a violent encounter on a dairy farm involving a machete. Close to his sentencing, he reveals to the bondsmen that he is in fact the infamous DB Cooper, the man responsible for the 1971 plane hijacking in the Pacific Northwest, and the ransom cash is still buried along the Columbia River. Up against the clock with Rodney’s prison sentence looming, the group sets out on a modern-day treasure hunt to recover the money he buried near the river 50 years ago, uncovering bizarre truths about Rodney Bonnifield and his connection to the only unsolved plane hijacking in U.S. history.
DB Cooper’s Case Has Perplexed People for Decades
The story of DB Cooper has long perplexed many, and it’s gotten to the point where thousands of people have even tried to take credit for the bold crime. However, the case remains unsolved on an official level, as authorities have not officially announced an identity for the man. But there was something about Rodney Bonnifield’s story that stood out from others trying to say they were DB Cooper, and the more they looked into Bonnifield’s claim, the more the filmmakers believed it.
Principal production began in 2020 with a cast and crew cinematically retelling the story, all of it coming from Bonnifield’s taped confessions. With the use of dramatizing the story for better effect, perhaps viewers will also walk away feeling like they now know who DB Cooper really is. Perhaps he would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn’t been for those meddling filmmakers.
I Am DB Cooper will be released in theaters and on demand on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022. You can find out more abuot the film at the official website.
