Sony’s Xperia phones often fly under the radar, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from constantly bringing new iterations. Based on some new information about the 2023 Sony Xperia phones, it appears that we’re going to see some major redesigns.

Based on the leaks, it looks like the Sony Xperia 1 V and Xperia 5 V will be the phones under the spotlight next year. We expect them to look very different from the current models because of some major hardware changes that will come to these phones.

The 2023 Sony Xperia phones may have radically different designs

Starting off with one of the most important aspects of the Sony Xperia phones, we expect some major changes to the camera systems. Based on rumors shared on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, these two new phones will sport approximately 1-inch sensors.

1-inch sensors aren’t a new thing, but they’re still a rarity in the smartphone camera market. Only a few phones like the Xperia Pro-i and the Xiaomi 12S use a 1-in sensor.

Because of the size of the camera sensor, the source says that Sony will need to completely redesign the camera package just to fit such a large sensor. That’s a necessity, and we’re wondering if Sony will use this opportunity to completely revamp the design aesthetic of its phones.

Next up, The Sony Xperia 1 V might come with an impressive sound system. Plenty of phones come with great dual speaker setups, but it seems that Sony wants to push things even further.

One post on Weibo says that the next generation Xperia 1 V will have “the world’s largest alarm and perhaps the largest volume”. As you can tell, the English is not 100% in this post.

However, it does point to the phone having speakers much louder than phones today.
That will be interesting to see (or hear, perhaps). What’s more important than volume is the audio quality, so we’ll have to keep an eye out for that.

As time goes on, we’ll get more information about these phones. They may not be the talk of the town, but there’s still a niche of people who enjoy these phones for their camera quality and their unique software experience.
