Netflix is doing what it can to help stave off financial losses. This includes cracking down on password sharing. Much to many people’s dismay, Netflix is going to extend its password-sharing crackdown next year, according to The Verge.
Netflix is vehemently working on getting people to stop sharing their passwords. Throughout the year, the company has been testing out several methods to do so in South America. This included charging people more for letting others use their accounts. Also, the company has been geo-locking accounts as well.
Another piece of that puzzle is the newly announced profile transfer feature. This allows people to easily transfer their data from one account to another. You can transfer your watch history, recommendations, My List, and more with just a few taps.
But, Netflix is not stopping there with this crackdown on password-sharing
Netflix posted a gain of 2.4 million subscribers over the past 3 months. That’s a lot better than losing over a million subscribers like it did earlier this year. However, the company wants to double down on this increase.
Starting early next year, the company plans on adding a feature called sub-accounts. As the name implies, these Will be auxiliary accounts that the main account holder can add to their bill.
At this point, we don’t know how much these sub-accounts will cost. Also, we’re not quite sure how they will function compared to regular accounts. More information about this will come out in the following months before its launch.
Netflix unveiled its ad-supported tier
Another recent development for Netflix was the ad-supported payment here. We’ve known about this for the past 6 months, but Netflix recently revealed the price. Honestly, it is not too bad. The payment to you costs $6.99/month.
What do you get with this tier? Well, it’s basically a mirror reflection of the basic tier with a few exceptions. For starters, it will show ads between 15 and 30 seconds long. Netflix plans to have four to five minutes of ads per hour. These ads were provided by Microsoft.
You will be able to watch content up to 720p resolution, and that also goes for the basic plan. When it comes to content, you will have access to most of the library of content on Netflix. Some content will not be available due to licensing issues.
Last but not least, you will not be able to download your content and watch it offline. This should come as no surprise, as there will be no way to watch the ads if you watch downloaded content. This payment here will be available for US customers on November 3rd.
