The Galaxy Note 10 Lite is the latest recipient of the October 2022 Android security patch from Samsung. The rollout began recently in Europe, with users in France getting the update ahead of everyone else. A wider release should follow soon.
The October SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in Europe is rolling out with firmware version N770FXXS8GVI2. As suggested by this build number, this update doesn’t bring anything else apart from the latest vulnerability fixes. So don’t be hopeful of new features or any other user-facing changes. This release is all about security improvements.
Samsung has already published the patch details for October. The latest SMR contains patches for over 50 privacy and security issues on Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The majority of those are Android OS flaws. The new security bulletin mentions 30 high-severity and one critical Android OS vulnerabilities patched by Google this month.
The latest security release also contains fixes for some Samsung-specific vulnerabilities. The Korean firm patched 18 such issues present on its Android devices. These include one critical flaw in IOMMU (input–output memory management unit) that allowed unauthorized access to secure memory. Samsung has added proper protection to secure memory with the October SMR.
All of these security fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. As said earlier, the rollout began recently in France. Over the next few days, it should expand to other markets where the phone is available. If you’re using the phone, you should get a notification prompting you to download the OTA (over the air) update soon. You can tap on the notification and follow the on-screen instructions to download the latest security patch. You can also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
The Galaxy Note 10 Lite will get the Android 13 update
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 10 Lite in January 2020, alongside the Galaxy S10 Lite. The phone never got a sequel as the company discontinued the Note lineup after launching the Galaxy Note 20 series a few months later. However, the handset continues to receive regular software updates. Debuted with Android 10 out of the box, it has picked up updates to Android 11 and Android 12. It will also get Android 13, with Samsung’s One UI 5.0 on top. The new Android version, which could be the last for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, will likely roll out later this year or early next year. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
