When the Screaming Starts is a new horror comedy whose trailer has been revealed by Bloody Disgusting. The film’s premise is that Norman (Jared Rogers), a struggling journalist turned filmmaker, finds himself face to face with aspiring serial killer Aidan Mendle (Ed Hartland. Invited to follow Aiden on his journey, Norman starts documenting his exploits and whether or not he’ll ever actually kill anyone.

“Of all the genres that meld with horror, none is more seamless than comedy. Horror and comedy are like two sides of the same coin, which is why fans of both have embraced this sub-genre so readily. When the Screaming Starts is the perfect combination of humor and horror. It’s Shaun of the Dead meets Spinal Tap, and we know that fans are going to eat it up,” said Bloody Disgusting Managing Director Brad Miska.

Directed by Conor Boru, the film was co-written by him and lead actor Hartland. According to the trailer, Fangoria’s Editor-in-Chief Phil Nobile Jr. said that When the Screaming Starts “does for serial killers what What We Do in the Shadows did for vampires.” The premise also resembles Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which like What We Do in the Shadows, was also a mockumentary parodying the horror genre.

“Delivering fully on the potential of its premise, this witty, stylistically sharp mock-doc marks the arrival of a talented filmmaking voice in Conor Boru,” said Flickering Myth.
