UFC 279 is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 10, 2022. It’s headlined by Khamzat Chimaev vs Nate Diaz in a Welterweight bout. The main card will also feature a second welterweight bought between Li Jingliang and Tony Furguson. As well as a a Women’s bantamweight bought between Irene Aldana and Macy Chiasson.

UFC President, Dana White actually had to cancel the UFC 279 press conference this week, after a major fight broke out backstage. Which is the second time this week a fight broke out backstage at a press conference. After AEW’s All Out PPV on Sunday, a fight broke out backstage just before their press conference, which saw CM Punk berating AEW’s owner and a few others.

Reports from the event stated that Khamzat Chimaev and Kevin Holland got into it. It got out of hand, and spilled over to Nate Diaz’s team, and got a lot more chaotic. Needless to say, White was correct in cancelling the press conference.

UFC 279 Main Event Preview

The main event, Chimaev vs Diaz is bound to be a big one. Chimaev is one of the fastest-rising stars in the UFC right now. Having won 10 of his last 11 fights by knockout or submission. Chimaev also holds the record for the fastest consecutive wins in the modern UFC era. Which was two victories in just 10 days. UFC 279 will be his first PPV main event and his sixth UFC bout.

This match with Diaz will put Chimaev in the spotlight. And Diaz is his most popular opponent to date. While Diaz has lost three of his last four fights, he is still one of the most popular fighters in MMA. Diaz has 11 wins by submission and is best known for being the first fighter in the UFC to defeat Conor McGregor.

This is set to be Diaz’s final fight in his UFC contract. Having first appeared in 2007, this might be his last fight if he does not renew. Will he go out on top?
