According to a report by Mobile Indian, Xiaomi is planning to introduce a new sub-brand or series of devices for tech enthusiasts. The publication is citing sources who allegedly know more about the matter.
Xiaomi may introduce new sub-brand of devices for tech enthusiasts
This new sub-brand, or series of devices, is said to include smartphones that run near-stock Android out of the box. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 series processors were also mentioned.
That’s a rather odd combination, to be quite honest. Tech enthusiasts usually care a lot about specs, and releasing phones with mid-range chips may not be the best way to cater to them. Chips are not the whole story, of course, and the Snapdragon 700 series processors are actually really good, usually.
More budget devices in this lineup are said to rock the Snapdragon 765 SoC, while the more premium ones will get the Snapdragon 778. Considering that such specific chips are mentioned, these devices are likely coming soon.
Those devices are said to get three major Android OS updates
These phones will reportedly get three major updates, and four years of timely security patches. Even some pricing info was shared, the devices are said to be priced in the range between INR15,000 ($188) and INR25,000 ($313).
Yes, this new lineup of devices is expected to launch in India, but it may arrive to other markets at the same time, or shortly after. Most Redmi and Poco phones also belong in this price range, so this would be an interesting move.
The major difference would be different software, it would seem. These new devices would run near-stock Android, while both Redmi and Poco phones come with iterations of Xiaomi’s MIUI skin.
Now, Xiaomi apparently believes that there is a void in the enthusiast smartphone segment. Why? Well, mainly because of OnePlus’ transition and the declining popularity of Pixel phones in India.
Do note that all of this information can be classified as a rumor at this point, though.
