“Try not to lose a hand; it’s kind of a thing in our family.” Watch Leia advise her son, Ben Solo, about the dangers of being related to the Skywalker family in the latest trailer for Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation, seen below:
Set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker, Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation focuses on Finn, who first appeared in The Force Awakens in 2015. He’s arranging a surprise vacation for his friends Rey (Helen Sadler), Poe (Jake Green), and Rose. Kelly Marie Tran is reprising her role as Rose for the series and is joined by Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian.
Unfortunately, Finn’s vacation doesn’t go according to plan, and he’s separated from the group. While searching for his friends, he encounters three Force ghosts: Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and Leia Organa (Shelby Young). The special will feature three stories-within-a-story, as the force ghosts tell their own vacation tales to Finn.
In addition to the veteran cast from previous Lego specials, Summer Vacation will include Dee Bradley Baker, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kyliegh Curran, Matt Lanter, Matt Sloan, Ross Marquand, Trevor Devall, Thomas Lennon, and Paul F. Thompkins. ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic is also joining the cast, playing Vic Vankoh, who will provide music and an original song titled ‘Scarif Beach Party’ for the Star Wars special. The official synopsis for Star Wars Summer Vacation reads:
Looking for a much-needed break from stormtroopers and TIE fighters, Finn arranges a surprise vacation for his friends Rey, Poe, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3Po, aboard the ultra-luxurious Galactic Starcruiser, the Halcyon. But Finn’s plan to have one last hurrah together quickly goes awry when he’s separated from the group. While searching for his friends, he encounters three Force ghosts: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Leia Organa, who each share their own unexpected stories of vacations gone wrong, helping him to understand that holidays are about more than just having fun.
Lego Specials Are a Success for Disney+
In 2020 Disney+ released the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, centering on Rey, who leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day. The cast featured many of the same voice actors from Summer Vacation, with original actors like Billy Dee Williams reprising his role. In many ways, the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is considered superior to the previous Star Wars Holiday Special. Yes, THAT Holiday Special. The 1978 TV Movie featuring the original cast members of Star Wars was considered a disaster by fans of the franchise and overall a train-wreck of a production.
Following the success of the revamped Lego Holiday Special, Disney turned to Halloween for Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales. The special featured Tony Hale, Matthew Wood, John DiMaggio, and Christian Slater. The 44-minute TV short was met with positive reviews from audiences, citing Terrifying Tales as another enjoyable Lego project from Disney+.
Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation will surely be something similar to the other specials added to the streaming service and should be enjoyable for families and fans of Star Wars. Summer Vacation arrives on Disney+ on Aug. 3rd.
