UFC is heading to Southeast Asia for it’s latest PPV. UFC 275 is going to be taking place in Kallang, Singapore, and it’ll be the first time the UFC has held a PPV besides the US and Abu Dhabi since UFC 243 in 2019. So this is bound to be a special one.
On Friday, it was announced Rogerio Bontorin was hospitalized so his fight with Manel Kape has been cancelled from the main card. It’s being reported that Bontorin was experiencing kidney issues while cutting weight ahead of the weigh in earlier this week. Bontorin has been winless in his past four bouts and was looking to score his first win since scoring a first-round TKO of Raulian Paiva in August of 2019. Kape, was looking to string his third straight win after back-to-back round 1 finishes of Ode Osbourne and Zhalgas Zhumagulov.
So it’s bound to be a pretty impressive PPV this weekend and you won’t want to miss out.
UFC 275 Main Event Preview
Headlining this PPV is Glover Teixeira (current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion) vs the former Rizin Light Heavyweight Champion Jiri Prochazka. Which was originally set to take place at UFC 274 last month, but was moved to UFC 275. The UFC never mentioned why. But this is bound to be an impressive bout to round out the night.
Teixeira is turning 43 in October, but that isn’t going to stop him. He first came to the UFC in 2012, and the consensus at the time was that he would quickly find hsi path to title contention, years of visa issues meant that he had to come to the promotion near the end of his prime. Teixeira was a title contender within two years of joining the UFC, having a clear decision against Jon Jones back in April 2014. Teixeira would hang around the top of the light heavyweight class for the next few years, before a rough three-year stretch in which the Brazilian was outclassed by Anthony Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson and Corey Anderson.
Prochazka has been a breath of fresh air since Jon Jones left the division. The Czech fighter has been holding incredible fights every time he steps in the octagon. Prochazka had a successful run in the Rizin Fighting Federation, and was an obvious talent with some very obvious weaknesses. He is an elite athlete with a massive frame and impressive fluidity but developed a wild and messy style that leaves a multitude of defensive openings.
Watching Teixeira and Prochazka go at it on Saturday night is going to be an instant classic.
