The final trailer has just been released for Nope, the third feature film from acclaimed director Jordan Peele. Up to this point, Peele has been extremely secretive about what the movie is really about, and its vague title has not offered much. The final trailer sheds more light on the plot of the film which seems to center on an alien invasion with UFOs coming down from the skies. You can watch the new trailer below.
Peele also teased the film in a new video posted online by Twitter Movies. The clip shows some footage of the film while Peele describes it as the most ambitious project he has ever planned, revealing he wasn’t even sure if he would be able to pull it off.
“You know, this whole film is all about as ambitious a cinematic event as I have planned so far in my career,” Peele said. “I tried to write a script that I didn’t know how to pull off, and then assembled a team to help me pull it off. It’s just, this is just one of these days in these weeks where it feels really good to be a director.”
Nope reunites Peele with Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) with the film also starring Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as “residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.” Michael Wincott (Hitchcock, Westworld) and Brandon Perea (The OA, American Insurrection) also star. Peele wrote and directed the film and produced with Ian Cooper (Us, Candyman) for Monkeypaw Productions.
Jordan Peele Has Explained the Title

Jordan Peele seems to love simplicity when it comes to naming his movies. Following Get Out and Us, this third film was given the simple title of Nope. So, where does this come from? Peele has explained that this is more for the audience than the characters in the film, suggesting his goal was to have most of the filmgoers saying, “Nope!” at various points in the horror movie.
“I love a rapt audience saying, ‘Nope!’ or, ‘Get out the house!’ I love to encourage that interaction because that’s what’s giving the audience a unique experience,” Peele said of the title at CinemaCon, per Entertainment Weekly. “Roller Coasters aren’t fun alone. Being scared isn’t fun alone. You need that energy.”
He added, “The title speaks to the idea of being in tune with what the audience is thinking and feeling in the theater. I know a lot of people who say when it’s a scary movie, they say, ‘Nope!’ Especially Black audiences, right? We love horror but there’s skepticism.”
Peele has also teased that the film would focus on extra-terrestrial invaders, though it wasn’t until this new final trailer was released that we really got to see how this plays into the story. The filmmaker described the movie’s events as having an “otherworldly confrontation,” and many fans were able to speculate that it may have been aliens, given how the characters were all seen looking up while terrified in the various promotional materials. He also said how he wrote the film with Kaluuya in mind from the start.
“I wrote Nope with Daniel in mind for the role – a humble man destined for an epic and otherworldly confrontation,” Peele old Empire. “Daniel’s craft is on a different level, but it’s his warmth that grounds audiences even during points of absolute madness. You may be watching a nightmare, but when he’s on screen, at least you’ve got your brother with you, and that’s all you need.”
Nope is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on July 22, 2022.
