Android 13 will release in the stable channel later this year and with it, Samsung should launch its One UI 5.0 custom software. But ahead of that, the company will roll out a minor update to its Android 12 skin. The new version will be called One UI 4.1.1 and is now confirmed to be coming in a few months. A moderator on Samsung’s community forums in South Korea recently revealed (via) that the new One UI update is in the works and will roll out to eligible models over the air (OTA) shortly.

The said moderator didn’t provide an exact timeframe for the update. But if history is anything to go by then Samsung will introduce One UI 4.1.1 with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldables sometime in August. The company last year debuted Android 11-based One UI 3.1.1 with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The 2021 foldable duo will also get the One UI 4.1.1 update, the moderator has confirmed.

As said earlier, Samsung will roll out One UI 5.0 based on Android 13 soon after the latter goes public this fall. So One UI 4.1.1 would be quite short-lived with a major update shadowing it within a few months. Don’t expect any major new features or changes either. There will be a few, though. We will let you know as and when we have more information.

One UI 4.1.1 will fix a long-existing Good Lock bug

While we have no idea yet about the new features and changes that One UI 4.1.1 will bring to Samsung’s new foldables, we know that the upcoming OTA release will fix a long-existing bug in the Wonderland module of Good Lock, which is a suite of personalization and customization tool for Galaxy users. The confirmation of the One UI 4.1.1 update came as a response to a question about this bug.

Samsung Community member identified by the username JAYO had reported a Wonderland bug in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 back in December last year. If you use the module to set up a custom wallpaper, homescreen animations reportedly stop working as intended. The background also goes black sometimes.

The company had promised a fix for this issue several months back. But it exists even today. JAYO recently reminded Samsung of the bug, and a Good Lock moderator replied that One UI 4.1.1 will fix it. Time will tell what else the company has up its sleeves to differentiate its 2022 foldable smartphones.
