How to use the text chat in Apex Legends Mobile
When it comes to using chat in multiplayer games, people tend to lean toward text-based chat first. Accessing the text chat on Apex Legends Mobile can be a little tedious due to how small the buttons are, but you’ll get used to it.
Using the presets
To access the text chat, you’ll want to press the text chat button on the top left of the display. It’s located in the panel to the right of the map. When you tap it, you’ll see a dropdown with some chat presets that you can tap to enter automatically.
These presets cover some of the basic commands that you would typically say during a battle. These include phrases like “Need ammo”, “Need Health”, “Help!”, and so on. You should be able to use them when you’re in a pinch and you need to communicate something to your teammates.
Typing in your own responses
If you want to type in your own responses, just know that this process will take up more than half of the screen. Summon the dropdown and, at the bottom, tap on the gray box. This will summon your device’s keyboard. If you’re not used to typing in landscape mode, then you’re going to have a hard time.
Once you type in your message, you’ll see it pop up in the chat. Just know that when you type in a message, it will pop up right where the dropdown was, and it will be tiny. You’ll have to squint to see the actual chat, so you’ll want to be aware of that.
How to use the voice chat
Using text chat is good, but it’s not great in the heat of battle. For times like these, voice chat is the best. You can talk in real-time with others and get much quicker feedback. Thankfully, Apex Legends Mobile allows you to use voice chat with others.
Next to the text chat button, you’ll see a microphone icon. Tapping on it will bring up a panel that’s divided into a top and bottom half. The top one reads “Mic Always On”. When you select one of these options, your microphone will remain on so that you can just chat while you’re playing. The bottom options are “Push to talk”, and that means that you need to actually press and hold the button to talk to the other players.
If you want to talk to only your squad, you’ll need to select the Squad options on the top or the bottom. However, if you want everyone in the match to hear your voice, you can press the Global options. Both the top and bottom halves have a Squad and global button.
Granting the app permission to your microphone
And, there you have it. If you want to be able to use the voice chat, you’ll need to grant the app permission to your microphone. You’ll have the option to grant it the permission when you first start the app.
If you accidentally deny the permission, don’t worry. Tap and hold down on the app’s icon on the home screen. You should see additional options pop up. Tap on the App Info option (the “!” inside the circle), and it will bring you to a new page. When the page shows up, tap on the Permissions button and select the Microphone button. There, you’ll be able to choose the option that’s right for you.
More How-to’s
If you want to be able to save your progress to an account, you can do that in Apex Legends Mobile. The game lets you link one of four accounts so that you can keep your progress safe even when you switch devices.
We have a handy how-to guide to help you do that. You can either link your Google, Facebook, Twitter, or EA account to your game. This way, you won’t have to worry about losing your progress if you switch to a different device.
