SEGA is releasing a new Mega Drive Mini system called the Mega Drive Mini 2, featuring even more built-in games. While the last system featured a collection of popular SEGA Genesis games, the Mega Drive Mini 2 will come with both Genesis and CD games. Some of the key titles include Sonic The Hedgehog CD, Shing Force CD, Silpheed, Virtua Racing and more.

All together there will be over 50 titles that come on the system. Giving retro game fans plenty to play should they want to put down their more modern hardware for a while. SEGA hasn’t announced all of the games yet though. On the mini retro console’s official website, SEGA only mentions the above titles in addition to The Story Of Yumeikan, Populu Mail, Bonanza Brothers, The Shining And The Darkness, Thunder Force IV, Majikaru Taruruto-Kun, and Fantasy Zone.

SEGA may only release the Mega Drive Mini 2 in Japan

SEGA must be finding sucess with its mini systems to warrant releasing a follow-up. But as of right now it looks like this one is only going to release in Japan. At the very least SEGA hasn’t announced any additional launch regions yet, even if plans to do so later on.

The console is due for a release in Japan later this year, on October 27. it’ll retail for 9,980 yen which is around $75. So not a bad price for all that you’re getting. Though if it does release in the West the price probably won’t have a straight conversion price. Going off the price of the SEGA Genesis Mini when it launched ($80), the Mega Drive Mini 2 could end up being around the same cost.

If this unit does come to the West, stock also isn’t likely to last long. Most retailers no longer seem to be selling the previous console and the only ones left available are from third-party sellers at extremely high prices. And that being said, if this console interests you, then you may want to keep a close eye on it.
