App search on Pixel devices running Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 is seemingly non-functional for some customers. More specifically, the app grid can no longer display apps even when the user types out the app’s name in its entirety.

The app search feature also seems to be broken on some devices running stable Android 12

9to5Google reports that some users on stable Android 12 are also experiencing this Pixel Launcher bug. So it may not be limited to just Android 12 QPR3 Beta. So if you’re on this beta release and can’t search for an app from the app grid, you know why.

As one of the screenshots shows, typing an app’s full name (Gmail, in this case) won’t pull up the app. Strangely, search results continue to appear for in-app settings or Pixel Tips. But that’s not the case with almost every other app, including first-party apps like Gmail or YouTube. App shortcuts continue to show up on the list, however, as long as it aligns with the search query.

Users say rebooting the device fixes the Pixel Launcher’s search function. However, this is not a viable fix for this annoying bug. While Google is likely working on a fix already, it doesn’t explain why or how this bug can affect users on stable Android 12.

Android 12 QPR3 Beta was officially released earlier this month, with the stable version arriving on June 6

Google rolled out Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 earlier this month with some exciting new inclusions onboard. But as is generally the case with beta releases, there were a couple of minor issues. We can now add the broken app search feature to the list as well. Google will release the stable Android 12 QPR3 by June 6.

But focusing more on the positives, Beta 3 introduces an all-new vibrate mode icon on the status bar. While it may seem like a relatively minor addition, this would finally let users know if they’ve put their phone on vibrate, silent, or otherwise. Of course, the feature can also be annoying for users who like a clean status bar. Thankfully, users can toggle this feature from the “Always show icon when in vibrate mode” within the Sound & vibration settings.

Furthermore, Android 12 QPR3 Beta 3 also brings improvements to the Pixel battery widget. While the battery widget was previously hiding under Settings Services on the widget selector, it now gets its own label known simply as Battery. This makes it easier for Pixel owners to find a suitable battery widget for their homescreen.
